Roots of Appalachia Growers Association (RAGA), established in 2000 with the help of Rural Action, is a nonprofit organization of medicinal herb growers. RAGA is based in the foothills of Southern Ohio with membership reaching into other areas of Appalachia. RAGA is a support network for growers, providing a wealth of information about how to grow and market ginseng and other woodland medicinal plants. RAGA also educates the public so they understand the value of growing these threatened herbs. RAGA’ee has been working to confront ginseng poaching, focusing on developing strategies related to ginseng cultivated on the private lands of grower-members.
